Embedding is often faster and you typically have fewer media player glitches.
The first time you embed it can seem overwhelming due to seeing the gobbledeegook of code.
Inserting requires you to have a copy of a file (usually on your local computer or server) and you "grab" it and put it in
Embedding usually occurs when using websites from which to download video
Not all programs allow you to easily embed so inserting might be the option
Embedding allows you to edit the main file and it automatically updates the embedded file.
Inserting requires you to update each file separately.
To embed, click Widget... Other... and paste the code from the source.
For inserting a file, click "File"... "Upload File" (file from your local machine)... find the file on the computer... then click the uploaded file when it's done
It's usually better to embed video if possible. But if the website is gone, so is the video
Picture files usually are inserted
Document files for viewing only are usually inserted
Document files for editing are usually embedded
Some common apps/sites for embedding:
TeacherTube (copy code from)
Youtube (copy code to)
Prezi (copy code to)
PowerPoint (copy code to)
Google Docs (copy code from and sometimes to)
Wikis (copy code to)
Screenr (copy code from)
Recommendation - try embedding first with video or files shared for editing. If you can embed rather than insert - embed.
Goofy thing to really mess you up... once you insert a file or document into a wiki, technically it's now embedded. ARGH!!!
