Planning and Developing Instructional Media I - (3 sh)
The class methods and format will include the use of small and large-group discussions, project work, online asynchronous discussions, and reflective journals. The instructor will model engaged learning by serving as facilitator, guide, and co-learner. The students will be engaged learners who are responsible for their own learning, energized by the learning process, and work collaboratively with others in class to accomplish your goals. It is my belief that teachers have far too little time to create, share, and learn together. I would like to use our time together to do just that; create, share, and learn. This course will be highly collaborative, interactive and “green” (paperless). All tools and resources will be electronic. Foundational tools will be introduced for practice and use, and students will be involved determining their method of presentation for the final project.

Google Docs Practice:
Using Google Docs "New... Document", tell me where you're from (i.e. birthplace, hometown, education, background, etc.), how you got to where you are and where you're headed (where you see yourself and your goals for 5-10 years down the road).
Gather the following information from your classmates and enter the information into a Google Docs spreadsheet. Use these as headings:
Last name
First name
Email
District
Position
Yrs in Ed
Avg Stud/Class

"Share" the documents with all class members and Patrick, and give edit permissions.
The final project will be worth 40% of your grade. It will incorporate software applications and skills developed through practice during the week, or others with which you are familiar as approved by the instructor.
Your project will be the development of a wiki which will be practical for either administrative or classroom that incorporates each of the tools you will be exposed to and practice with in class, plus 1 additional tool.
Use IIRC, MAP, or other student data from your specific school to communicate and make available a plan for improvement to stakeholders (ex. students, parents, other teachers, community) through the use of a Wiki.
Develop an instructional (professional development) Wiki for teachers to use as a guide for best practices including technology standards, policies, applications/tools, and work samples generated by you.
Develop class and curricular unit using Edmodo.
Project designed by the student and approved by the instructor (example: classroom wiki).
